75 Years Ago Original Owner Gets Auto Taken From HimOne case, involving action in replevin, was disposed of at Monday morning's session of Frederick court. Judge Worthington presiding. The case, in which Daniel D. Wilson, Woodville, was the plaintiff, ensued from the purchase of a stolen automobile, which belonged to Jacob Friedlander, of North Carolina. Others named in the case besides Friedlander were the National Union Fire Insurance Company, Charles E. Burnham, John F. Boniarske and Charles Jones. The car which was purchased by Wilson, was stolen by Harvey T. Bowman, of Mt. Airy, in Baltimore last September. Bowman, who has since confessed to stealing a number of machines, admitted the car was stolen from Friedlander. Wilson brought the matter before the court in an effort to retain the car as he paid Bowman for the machine and also secured title for it. Following the testimony, Judge Worthington instructed the jury, before which the case was tried, to return a verdict for the defendant. Democratic Advocate, March 21, 1924.
100 Years Ago Carroll County Base Ball LeagueAs each year base ball clubs make claims and counter-claims as to the championship of the county, it was proposed by the Westminster Base Ball Club that all the clubs in the county, which have any such pretentions, should form a league and play series of games with each other according to a prearranged schedule. This suggestion has met with the approval of enough clubs to form a small league, but in order to give every club in the county a right to make application for membership, the manager of the Westminster Base Ball Club repeats the announcement made some time previous to this and invites applications from all such clubs as have not yet responded. As it is necessary to begin active preparations at once, it is necessary that all clubs which wish to enter the league should immediately notify the manager of the Westminster Base Ball Club of their desire to either join, or receive information concerning the scheme, which the manager, who will direct the affairs of the league until an organization is effected, will willingly furnish.
