HAPPENINGS AT THE

HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF CARROLL COUNTY

A Summer Evening at Mayberry Mill
June 23, 2007

Perfect weather and an intriguing location combined to form the backdrop for a unique fundraising event.

Owners Mary Ann and Bob Galandak welcomed HSCC members and friends to their restored 19th century grain mill at the corner of Stone and Mayberry Roads.

A delicious dinner of pit beef, fried chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, biscuits, ice cream with fresh strawberries and cookies whetted everyone's appetite for the evening's main event - an old-fashioned cake auction.

With Bob Galandak acting as auctioneer, guests enjoyed a rousing round of bidding on an assortment of home-made cakes with deep family roots.  With choices ranging from "Orange Dreamsicle Cake" to "Old Fashioned Applesauce Cake" to "Lady Baltimore Cake" to "Missionary Cake," the 16 cakes up for bid offered something for every taste.  There were even two Grand Champions from the Carroll County Fair: Orange Chiffon Cake by Tim Owings of New Windsor (winner in 2002)and Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Filling and White Icing by Dannielle Williar of Union Bridge (winner in 2006).

The evening was a lot of fun for everyone and raised $3250 for the general operations of the Historical Society of Carroll County.
