WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3
Bus trip - Historic Elk Landing and Havre de Grace
On Wednesday, June 3, enjoy springtime in Maryland as we travel to beautiful Harford County.  Our first stop is Historic Elk Landing.  British troops passed through the area in August 1777 on their way to capture the American capitol in Philadelphia.  In the early 19th century, it was a port for boats loaded with supplies heading for Baltimore and returning with coal, molasses, coffee, and whiskey.  Here we will visit two house museums.

Next, we’ll head to Havre de Grace for lunch at the Tidewater Grill and the spectacular view of the Susquehanna River as it becomes the Chesapeake Bay.  The lunch buffet will include appetizers, pork loin, tilapia francaise, primavera pasta, salad, mashed potatoes, ratatouille and dessert.

In the afternoon, choose one – or all – of three distinct museums.  The Havre de Grace Maritime Museum tells the story of the rich maritime heritage and history of the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay. The Havre de Grace Decoy Museum houses one of the finest collections of working and decorative Chesapeake Bay decoys, including decoys and decorative carvings dating from 1930 to 1990, as well as boats, guns, textiles, books, documents and photographs. Concord Point Lighthouse, constructed in 1827, is the oldest continuously operated lighthouse in the State of Maryland.  Everyone is free to spend as much or as little time in the museums that interest them.  Each person is responsible for paying their own admission to these museums.

The bus leaves from the parking lot on Ralph St. behind the Church of the Ascension at 8:30 and arrives back in Westminster at 5:30. Cost for the trip [includes transportation, admission to Elk Landing and lunch] is $65 for HSCC members and $75 for non-members.  Reservations are required by May 22.  No refunds can be given for cancellations received after the reservation deadline.  Call HSCC at 410-848-6494 to reserve your seats.
