Lyndi McNulty

Lyndi McNulty owns Gizmos Art in Westminster and does custom framing, appraisals, and restoration of oil paintings, paper, and photographs. She has been an appraiser for more than 30 years and specializes in antiques, automobiles, art, toys, American country antiques, china and glassware and estates. She is a charter member of the New England Appraiser’s Association and a member of the Baltimore Museum of Art and the American Association of Museums. McNulty has lectured at the Smithsonian Institution and holds an M.L. S. in museum studies and an M.S. from The Johns Hopkins University. She was a museum curator for three museums in the Maryland area where she identified collections, and designed and installed exhibitions. She has published two books in the history and antiques field including Images of America: Farming in Carroll County. McNulty writes the art article for the Advocate newspaper.

Michael A. Merrill is a Towson / Timonium coin and precious metals dealer who founded his business in 1974.  He is a buyer of United States gold and silver coins, rare coins, large and small currency,  sterling silver,  old gold, jewelry, small valuables, and vintage watches.  He has appraised and purchased many interesting coin collections from banks and collectors in the Baltimore area for 35 years.

Kim Prehn
Jewelry

Kim E. Prehn began her goldsmthing career in July 1981 in 29 Palms California where she was taught by Master Goldsmith Ross Stockwell.  Kim passed the Gemological Institute's diamond courses and stonesetting course.  She also took the colored stone course and gem identification courses from the GIA required for appraisal work. She went on to work in Carlsbad California at Bailey, Banks & Biddle for  award-winning Master Goldsmith Archie Henderson.

Kim returned to Maryland in 1986 and began working for Leonard Bers of Colonial Jewelers in Westminster.  She later did repair work for stores in various malls in Maryland until she opened her own store, Unique Jewelry, in Westminster’s Winchester Exchange building.

Kim became interested in antique jewelry in 1998 when she discovered an interest in the Civil War and living history. She has collected and studied many pieces of antique jewelry while also studying reference books and going to museums to expand her knowledge.

 

Bob Riley
Rugs

Bob Riley has been collecting rugs for more than 40 years and is currently the oriental rug appraiser for Gizmos Art. He is fascinated with the design, colors, workmanship and history of the rugs. He has been studying and learning about rugs and has a collection of nearly 200 books on the subject. He has learned about the weaves, dyes, and even repairs that have been made during the centuries on these valuable pieces of woven art. Riley has worked with rug merchants from New York to North Carolina. He has a personal collection of Caucasians, Afghan, Turkish (Ushak), and Chinese rugs. Riley is a member of the New England Appraisers Association and has written an article on the subject for their newsletter.

 

N. Kenzie Smith
Clocks

Kenzie Smith is the owner and operator of the Clock Shop at Shab Row in Frederick.  “I ‘worked’ on my first clock when I was five,” he says. “I dismantled my mother's art deco dresser clock - and couldn't get it back together.” Since then, he has acquired over 30 years of experience in the buying, selling and restoration of clocks. He learned about clocks by studying with many of the experts, including Francis Roberts. Kenzie has considerable experience working with clocks made by Frederick's master clock makers, particularly John Fessler and Frederick Heisley. He has worked on clocks for the Historical Society of Frederick County, Hood College and the Washington County Hospital, as well as clocks in private collections.

Fred J. Winer, ISA, CAPP, President of Appraisal Solutions, Inc., has been a personal property appraiser since 1983. His valuation expertise includes a wide range of areas including, but not limited to, depreciable residential contents, antiques and decorative arts, fine arts, antique glass, sculpture, objects of vertu, paintings, graphics, ceramics, textiles, pottery, and silver.  He is also qualified to appraise vehicles, commercial equipment and related items.   Mr. Winer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in European History from the University of Maryland. Presently he is President of the Board, International Society of Appraisers.  He has served as Treasurer and Secretary of the Maryland Chapter of The American Society of Appraisers, President of the Board of Mosaic Community Health Services, a member of the Adjunct Faculty of Anne Arundel Community College, and a past member of the Alumni Executive Council of McDonogh School.
